Our leaders develop innovative public policy and programs on local, state, and national levels. These policies and programs emerge from the ground up, based on the lived experiences and expertise of those they are designed to serve.
Here are a few examples of accomplishments in this area:
We co-led a national coalition that exposed redlining and won the Community Reinvestment Act, holding banks accountable when it comes to investing in poor communities of color.
We passed the Student Safety Act to support public oversight of safety and disciplinary practices in New York City schools.
Our housing leaders battling foreclosure in their buildings gave rise to the Proactive Preservation Initiative, which addresses deteriorating conditions in buildings across New York City before they endanger residents.
