Small businesses are essential to the fabric of our neighborhoods.
They sustain families, build our local economy, and enrich the culture of our community. The Kingsbridge Road Merchants Association and the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition work with small business owners and street vendors along the Kingsbridge commercial corridor to leverage legal and city-wide resources and community support to defend against harassment and negotiate fair leases that sustain them for the long haul. We organize to ensure redevelopment of the Kingsbridge Armory invests back into local business owners.
EXPLORE THE KINGSBRIDGE CORRIDOR SMALL BUSINESSES MAP:
Merchants and residents are working together to protect businesses from displacement—and create a corridor that can grow and succeed in the larger Bronx economy.
The Kingsbridge Road Merchants Association (KRMA) was created to provide the best possible commercial corridor for the businesses and residents of Kingsbridge. It improves conditions along the corridor from Grand Concourse stretching to Sedgwick Avenue. The KRMA represents the interests of around 200 stores in the geographic area, including:
Grand Concourse
Creston Ave.
Morris Ave.
Jerome Ave.
Davidson Ave.
Grand Ave.
Aqueduct Ave.
Reservoir Ave.
University Ave.
Webb Ave.
Sedgwick Ave.
Through the KRMA, merchants and residents voice concerns and set priorities for how we advocate for our businesses and serve the community. We support our local businesses to thrive through marketing, promotions, events, services, and investment; ensure a clean, safe, and attractive business corridor; and connect businesses to City agencies and services on a variety of issues.

A neighborhood strategy for a thriving Kingsbridge!
Our Armory Report presents a current assessment of the Kingsbridge corridor and community, and an ambitious vision for community-led development that has the potential to transform our borough.
Traditional economic development focuses on what we lack. We take an asset-based approach, combining feedback from thousands of Bronxites with research from our planning partners—Neighborhoods Now and the Pratt Institute—to understand challenges and opportunities that can be leveraged to build community wealth and ownership for Kingsbridge residents, workers, and merchants.

Small business displacement is cultural displacement. In order to protect New York’s vibrant culture, we forward a comprehensive platform to safeguard small businesses—including funding for legal services, protection for immigrant business owners and workers, a non-profit commercial development fund, and penalties for landlords who warehouse vacant commercial properties.
