"From The Ground Up, Growing Our Own Economy"

About our 37th ANNUAL GALA

Friday, April 8th 5:30-10:30pm, Fordham University

For thirty seven years, the NWBCCC has built a history of responding to the community needs and issues. We have inspired people not only to stand strong together and organize but to design lasting community institutions that give us faith that we can build a Bronx that thrives and blooms with a bottom-up vision of a new economy for everyone. We have led by example creating green jobs as a pathway out of poverty while combating climate change, advocating for educational justice while opening our own schools and institutions, and challenging unjust housing policies as we craft pro-active legislation to protect NYC tenant rights. Today the Bronx is the poorest urban county, with about 95% people of color, 90% low income, and an increasing immigrant community. Our goal for 2011 is to lay the foundations to build economic power for people in the Bronx. We envision creating more programs and institutions that birth opportunities for small businesses and workers in our community. We are not waiting for someone else to revive the Bronx.s moribund economy . we will lead the movement for a new economy in the Bronx.
